Opposition Leader predicts 'people's revolt' in Australia over carbon tax

Leader of the Federal Opposition in Australia Tony Abbott has made claims Thursday during Question Time in parliament that a 'people's revolt' is looming based on the Prime Minister Julia Gillard's proposal for a 2012 carbon tax.

In what Mr. Abbott describes as a "betrayal of the Australian people", Ms. Gillard announced Thursday that a price for carbon will be put back on the national agenda, for several years, to be followed by the formation of an emissions trading scheme. In the lead up to the 2010 Federal Australian Election, Ms. Gillard claimed that while she might implement a green house gas reduction scheme, "[she would] rule out a carbon tax".

The price on carbon will be applied to industrial and transport emissions but will not, however, affect Australia's agriculture.

The Prime Minister's announcement resulted in a large portion of Question Time being devoted to the issue with a Member of the Opposition being expelled from the House for disorderly conduct. Mr. Abbot then moved to censure the Prime Minister and conclude Question Time claiming "Nothing is more fake than making a promise to the Australian people before the election and breaking it after the election ... I don't believe it's going to happen because I think there will be a people's revolt. They will see this as an assault on their standard of living, which is exactly what it is".

To which the Prime Minister responded "Increasingly Australians understand that the Liberal Party, under the Leader of the Opposition, is a party of the past with no real policies or plans for the nation's future ... You get judged ultimately in this Parliament by what you decide to do and what you deliver, and on this side of the Parliament we are determined that from July 1 (2012) we will price carbon."

The Opposition claims that the proposed carbon tax will cause petrol prices to rise by A$0.065 per litre while energy bills may increase by $300 per year.

Krupa family of Croatia proven descendants of the Old Turkic Ashina dynasty

Croatian Krupa family found among others to be part of the old Turkic dynasty

The Krupa family of Croatia, along with the Schweitzer family of America and the Akhundzada family of Shabqadar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan found out exciting news regarding their ancestry. On January 14, 2011 an article from the Karlovac Danas Croatian News confirmed the published findings of iGENEA and Family Tree DNA. This exciting news has confirmed for these families the fact that their bloodline flows from the Royal Clan of Ashina of (K) Hazars. The Royal Clan of Ashina ruled during the third to the fifth centuries before the first Turkish empire materialized during the 6th century.

iGENEA, which is located in Zurich, Switzerland, is the largest genetic-genealogy organization in Europe and Family Tree DNA is the first and oldest genetic-genealogy company in the world. The companies collaborated on extensive and complex DNA testing of Y-DNA, along with the analysis of the male Y-chromosomes. The findings that iGENEA concluded have been verified and well documented.

One of the families tested, the Krupa’s, are a family of well known artists, who live in Karlovac, Croatia. They also have a maternal lineage from the ancient Israeli tribe of Levi.

The Y-DNA testing on behalf of the Akhundzada family was carried out by Arif Hasan Akhundzada, on the basis of tests conducted since 2004. Akhundzada, along with Alfred Krupa, is also administrator of the Family Tree DNA Ashina Royal group. He also assisted with the relevant research in Pakistan.

State of emergency declared in Tunisia

After weeks of chaos, Prime Minister of Tunisia, Mohammed Ghannouchi, has stated that he is taking power of the country. Recent violence has caused the country to shut down its airspace, lead the United States State Department to advise against visiting the country, and forced a state of emergency to be declared.

"I can confirm that the army is at the airport. Armoured vehicles are surrounding the airport," an official source stated. Rumors of attempts to flee by the President’s staff have been reported as well. President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali has authorized the transition according to television reports.

Hamma Hammami, the opposition leader from the Tunisian Workers' Communist Party, has been released after being held by authorities for three days. Yesterday, the Tunisian government declared a countrywide state of emergency after protests throughout the country. All public gatherings have been forbidden and "the police and the army are authorised to fire on any suspect person who has not obeyed orders or fled without the possibility of being stopped", according to a statement released by the government.

Additionally, a 12-hour curfew was imposed at 6:00 pm local time (1700 GMT) Friday in response to thousands marching in the capital city before authorities fired tear gas into the crowd.

At least 443 dead after flooding in Brazil

According to Reuters, at least 443 are dead after massive flooding and mudslides in Brazil, after heavy rain in the rocky in the Serrana region. msnbc.com has reported that the death toll stands at almost 500. The area, located north of Rio de Janeiro, received 10 inches of rain (a month's worth) in 24 hours.

The Folha de Sao Paulo publication stated it was the worst natural disaster to impact Brazil in about forty years. During a 5 mile hike for supplies, local resident Vania Ramos said, "I don't even have the words to describe what I've seen." According to the Civil Defense agency, in excess of 13,500 people have become homeless due to the recent events.

Debris from destroyed houses is littered across the area; more rain and mudslides are expected. Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff flew over the area by helicopter. To the region, the country's health ministry is sending seven thousand kilograms of medication. Teresopolis area mayor Jorge Mario said, "It's like an earthquake struck some areas."

Few rescue workers have been able to assist the people in the affected area, as transportation to the area is difficult. States neighboring the area have also been impacted by heavy rain and mudslides; mudslides kill hundreds of Brazilians every year.
